Tim Smith is a long-time local resident of Fort Wayne who is a proven business executive – not a politician. As a local business leader at MedPro, Tim has experience overseeing teams of hundreds and budgets of tens of millions. Tim has been married 28 years to Angie. They have five adult children (four married daughters and a son in college), four grandchildren (all under eighteen months). They are members of Grace Gathering church in Fort Wayne.
Tim’s family moved to New Haven in 1972 where he grew up and attended high school. Tim’s first political experience occurred during his undergraduate work at IPFW (Purdue Fort Wayne) when in 1989 he interned in Washington, D.C. for Vice President Quayle and Senator Coats. Shortly after returning home from D.C., Tim graduated from IPFW and began working full-time on Rick Hawks’ 1990 congressional campaign, followed by a stint managing Mayor Paul Helmke’s re-election campaign in 1991.
Following his brief political career, Tim attended IU School of Law-Indianapolis. After graduating from law school and passing the bar exam, Tim, Angie and their first three children returned to the Fort Wayne area where he began his career with MedPro Group, the world’s largest healthcare liability insurance company. Tim has held many leadership roles with MedPro since 1994, and continues to serve today as the company’s Senior Vice President of Operations and Technology. In that capacity Tim leads a team of ~350 people who together ensure the company’s 250K healthcare clients (and $1.5B in annual revenue) are delighted by their purchasing choice.
Through various leadership roles at MedPro Tim has learned the value of applying business principles to solve problems, build a brighter future, and bring people together for the greater good. Tim believes if a similar business-savvy approach is applied to the City of Fort Wayne, our city will become the “Midwest Magnet for People, Jobs and Non-Profits.”
